Blackburn District Scouts

Delivering Scouting to Young People in the Blackburn Area

Explorers are young people, usually aged between 14 and 18 years old. They make up the fourth section of the Scouting family after Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

Structure and meetings

A group of Explorers is called a Unit.

Not all our Units meet every week, partly due to activities, holidays, exams and the other commitments that crop up in a teenager's life, and also because Explorers tend to get out and about at weekends more often than other sections.

In Blackburn we currently have 4 Explorer Scout Units plus our Young Leader Unit. (See 'Our Units' in the right hand column)

Activities

Explorers often get the chance to work with other Explorers in their District, not just their own Unit, so can take part in an even wider spectrum of activities.

There is also a range of ambitious badges and awards, through which Explorers can demonstrate their proficiencies and expand their interests. In particular most Units run an active DofE scheme for their members to take part in.

Return of Face to Face Scouting
01/12/2020 By Stuart Parker
We can now confirm what face to face Scout activity is allowed when England comes out of lockdown this week.
From the beginning of Wednesday 2 December, all tiers in England will be in Amber for youth provision, for those under the age of 18.
The Government and the National Youth Agency have confirmed that youth clubs and activities will be permitted at all three tiers in England, as services such as Scouts are essential to the development and wellbeing of young people, and should continue wherever possible.
As a reminder this means:
Sections can meet with up to 15 young people (aged under 18), plus 5 adults.
The session can take place outdoors or indoors but must be socially distanced.
Face coverings should be worn by anyone of Scout-age plus when indoors. Adults delivering an activity to young people aren’t required to wear a face covering.

Groups across Blackburn will make their own decision to open up sections on a Group by Group basis.

We are starting to plan our year at Canalside. We can't put on activities for Groups without mowing the grass and general maintenance of the site.

We hold a regular Tuesday evening session (weather dependant) and welcome new members to join us. You can come as often as you have available.

This year we are hoping we will get volunteers who may come once or twice to mow Canalside. There are 26 slots we need to fill for the year. Mowing can be completed according to your availability and does not need to be Tuesday evening. Please e-mail parker_stuart@hotmail.com  for more details.
