Blackburn District Scouts

Delivering Scouting to Young People in the Blackburn Area

Beavers are boys and girls aged between six and eight years old, though they can be as young as five and three quarters.

They usually meet weekly to take part in a wide range of activities including games, crafts, singing, visits and good turns, along with plenty of outdoor activities.

They will also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. It may be the first time they spend a night away from home so it’s a real adventure for them.

Joining

Earlier entry is at the Beaver Scout Leader's discretion (for example, to allow someone a little bit younger to join at the same time as their friends).

Structure

A group of Beavers is called a Colony, and each Colony can be split up into smaller groups called Lodges.

Beavers have a Promise and Motto, but there is not a Beaver Scout Law. The concepts of the Scout Law should be presented to Beavers through games, storytelling and other informal devices.

Please note many of our Beaver Colonies operate a waiting list.

Return of Face to Face Scouting
01/12/2020 By Stuart Parker
We can now confirm what face to face Scout activity is allowed when England comes out of lockdown this week.
From the beginning of Wednesday 2 December, all tiers in England will be in Amber for youth provision, for those under the age of 18.
The Government and the National Youth Agency have confirmed that youth clubs and activities will be permitted at all three tiers in England, as services such as Scouts are essential to the development and wellbeing of young people, and should continue wherever possible.
As a reminder this means:
Sections can meet with up to 15 young people (aged under 18), plus 5 adults.
The session can take place outdoors or indoors but must be socially distanced.
Face coverings should be worn by anyone of Scout-age plus when indoors. Adults delivering an activity to young people aren’t required to wear a face covering.

Groups across Blackburn will make their own decision to open up sections on a Group by Group basis.

29/09/2019 By Stuart Parker

Over 400 Scouts from right across the town came together to support their local club Blackburn Rovers against Luton Town in the EFL Championship.

The event was organised jointly by Blackburn Rovers Community Trust and Blackburn Scouts to give young people a taste of Championship football. For many of the Scouts this was their first time at a football match.

A massive thankyou to the Community Trust for inviting us along on the day ... the young people had a blast.
